The Stencil Shed

Unique artworks by Bristol graffiti and spray paint artist, Syd. Each piece has been created in Syd’s Malmesbury shed-come-studio, which was named Best Studio Shed (2012, 2013 and 2014) and appeared on Channel 4’s Amazing Spaces. The art that Syd produces in this ‘oasis of heaven in a world awash with the mundane’ is often irreverent, comical and painted on a range of unusual surfaces.

What do you sell?
My own artwork. Handmade spray painted art on wood. Very distinctive.

How long have you been trading at the market?
Three years, always love the vibe, and its great its situated in the hotbed of the street art scene in Bedminster.

Tell us more about your products…
Made in my Amazing Spaces shed 2014. A mixture of animals, star wars and some random stuff in-between, all spray painted onto beautiful english hardwoods. I have been labelled the ‘rural banksy’ on occasion. Which always makes me smile!

Its doesn’t always feel like work, lots of old friends both customers and traders.

What is top of your bucket list?
A spade.

What is on your screensaver?
Its a giant R2 D2 I spray painted on an old aircraft hanger. its looks like a giant spray can complete with my own hand. Its my best street piece and it went mentally viral all over the world when I launched the design online on the day before the UK release of star wars the force awakens.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?
Happy.

How do you relax?
Going beating with my spaniel in the winter, chilling with the family all the rest of the year

What would your super power be?
I’ve always liked the hulk, except I would be orange.

Who would play you in the film of your life?
Damien Hirst. Haha.

What is the worst job you’ve done?
I was once the Prime Minister of Great Britain.

Favourite place in the world?
The moon.
