Hailing from Poland, Piotr Kulaga, now a resident in Bristol for over two years, paints in oil and acrylic on canvas and wood. His contemporary take on abstraction shows a clear love of geometry expressed through strong compositions with an affinity for straight lines and simple shapes.
Dreams are a deep source of inspiration for Piotr, as well as emotions from past experiences and childhood memories. He has channeled this into his observations of people in his everyday life, reflecting on how they affect him – their fear, anxiety and the mystery of human expression. His bold use of colour powerfully illustrates this fascination with human nature.
Recent artworks also touch on the political situation in Europe, where – as Piotr puts it “people seem to have forgotten about the sad history of the 20th Century, and appear on course to repeat the sins of their fathers.”
