London-based artist Toby Rainbird is a multidisciplinary creative – focusing his attention on painting. Following the Dutch genre painting tradition of ‘Tronie’ – Rainbird’s chosen subject is people painted from direct observation or memory. Rainbird also has a selection of artworks that depict broken sculptures, taxidermy and grotesque.

Since graduating in Fine Art in 2016 (BA) at Bath School of Art & Design, with the Outstanding Achievement award for his video art, Rainbird has directed his attention to drawing and painting. Showcasing his work at the WAC awards, RWA Annual Open Exhibition and National Open Arts. Most recently his painting was bought by the Ruth Borchard self-portrait prize for the organisation’s public collection.
