Facing Nature explores women’s connection to the natural world. Over the past summer, Pownall engaged with women living with chronic illness, seeking moments of refuge within the pace of everyday life. Through long walks and honest, sometimes uncomfortable conversations, she uncovered a quiet resilience shared within her community.

This process continues on canvas. Using mixed media and elements drawn from nature, Pownall reflects these women through colour, texture, and intuitive mark-making. Each piece is grounded by a final, swift drawing that captures a fleeting moment of connection and strength.
