Angela Lai Yen is a printmaker based in Bristol and a member of the Bath Artist Printmakers. Her work is inspired by nature and landscape; beauty in the simplicity of the everyday, green spaces and local walks as well as breathtaking views that remind us, the human, how small we are. The notion of how space and place can evoke emotion or trace to a memory is ever present in the work. Having had her childhood in Scotland; mountainous terrain, a single bothy and coastal views draw Angela back and are a recurring theme. Visually, simple organic lines and silhouettes are at play often with texture and pattern. The dynamic mark of the linocut placed with striking colour combinations can at times appear abstract yet minimal. An essence to suggest permits the viewer to sink into their connections with the work. Angela produces limited edition prints in Linocut and Monotype with Dry point edging in.
