Join Bolarinwa in the Snug for an open event, as part of Bristol’s Diaspora Festival.

Bolarinwa is a Nigerian-born artist currently based in Bristol, where he explores contemporary issues using African symbolism to create a bold visual language. His work blends geometric forms, vibrant pop colours, and motifs drawn from African spirituality and textiles, creating a dynamic dialogue between tradition and modernity. Influenced by the raw energy of artists like Basquiat, the musical defiance of Fela Kuti, and the streetwise commentary of Banksy, his paintings reflect both personal and political narratives.

This exhibition aims to explore the complex realities of Africans living in the West, where tradition and modernity collide in a whirlwind of contradictions. Through vivid brushstrokes and layered symbolism, these paintings captures the disorientation of navigating dual identities rooted in heritage yet shaped by foreign landscapes.
