Returning to jazz after years immersed in roots music with the likes of Sheelangig and Medicine Creek, Bristol double bassist Dorian Sutton was looking to do things differently.  Determined to connect emotionally with audiences, and avoid breakneck temps and competitive virtuosity, he turned to other sources of inspiration; obscure film soundtracks, the spiritual explorations of Alice Coltrane, the reflective ambiance of ECM artists and the austere minimalism of post-punk.

Two long term friends and collaborators were recruited to the cause: Rachel Kerry (piano) has played in a huge variety of jazz, classical and theatrical settings since completing her music degree and jazz diploma, and is much in-demand as an accompanist and educator.  Founder of the Bristol European Jazz Ensemble David Mowatt (trumpet, flugelhorn, spoken word) has a unique musical approach, and is highly regarded as a musician, composer, bandleader and promoter with a long history of involvement with the jazz and world music scene in Bristol and beyond.

M.S.K have honed their material and approach through long jam sessions, finding new tunes to play and breathing life into old ones, refining a sound that combines cinematic ambiance, deep improvisation, and a touch of beat-poetry.
